UNDER THE WEATHER

Sorry I haven't been around this week-I've been under the weather. Finally caught the nasty cold my whole extended family has had for a month. And I thought I was the lucky one! But today I feel ever so much better, so I wanted to say hi. Can you believe that Christmas Day is a mere three weeks away? This is no time to be out of commission. heavy sigh.

Even tho' I've been on the couch all week, I have had plenty of time to crochet and knit some goodies for Christmas. Here are some little ornaments. These were all done in Lily cotton yarn. Love that stuff. The ornament shaped ones came from here.

I made up the tree shape and the little dress. Isn't it cute? It'll be for one of my granddaughters.

Next you can see I've been making dishcloths. These are so wonderful to wash dishes with or even used as washcloths to bathe with. The red/cream one is crochet; the green is knitted. I like the pine tree design. I'm working on a yellow one with a star in the center. Fun, fun.

I hope you are all staying well and proceeding toward your Christmas plans with no obstacles.
Tomorrow I'm hoping to get some decorations up. Nerm

SEAT WORK

Remember in school, when the teacher gave you seat work? You were supposed to sit quietly and do worksheets or questions or usually something boring? Well, as I am recuperating, I've been doing my fair share of seat work. Some is not finished, so I can't show you yet, but here are two of my endeavors so far.
I saw this Swiffer cover on a web site and thought how neat it was. It's made of Lily Brand's Sugar n Cream cotton yarn. Just put it on the Swiffer and dust or mop and toss it in the wash when you're done. No more buying refills and throwing them away. How Green can you get!

If you're interested in making your own go to sheep of a different color and click on patterns. They have instructions for knit and crochet. This one is knitted. I plan to make several more because they are so fast and easy.
Here's another baby blanket for the Weecare program at church for the indigent mothers. The colors aren't showing up very pretty, but its, pink, lavendar and white. Very soft.

This cutie is youngest grandchild, Morgan, who came to visit yesterday. She's very intent on watching Dora the Explorer. Isn't she sweet? She's all cuddled up in a quilt and cozy as can be.

And finally ... for those who say dogs and cats don't get along, take a gander at this! Boomer, my shih tzu and Lily, the cat all curled up in one bed for a long winter's nap. How cute is that?

I am going to try to start posting more regularly now that I'm feeling so much better. Hope your week is great and full of blessings. Nerm

ODDS AND ENDS

Hello out there in blogland-hope your August is going well. We've been actually having rather nice weather her in middle Tennessee-high 80's with lower humidity. Last year at this time, we were over 90 degrees for over a month with killer humidity. Still I've already got the fall fever!

When I was at my aunt's house earlier this summer, I found this old 1986 copy of Woman's Day magazine. I loved the afghan on the cover and have started making it. I like to crochet because it's easier on the arthritis in my hands than knitting. I LOVE granny squares too. Lets you use up all those scraps of yarn. And you should know by now, I love COLOR. So there you are...
We had the family birthday get-together for me last weekend. Here's my cake. See, even my family calls me Nerm. Isn't it pretty. Very good too. Thanks for all your sweet birthday wishes-that means alot to me.
More flowers (from Wendy)--I sure could get used to receiving flowers twice in one week!

I hesitated to put this photo in because I detest having my picture taken, but as they say, it is what it is. L-R: Me, Amy, Mother and my sister Gail.

I've been helping take care of Tanner this week since school doesn't start til next week and his preschool is out for the summer. So Kitty and I have been trading off. Here he is all outfitted for his scooter riding. We worked in the yard today too. Put all that energy to good use! He starts kindergarten next week and is so excited. I am too -can't wait to see what all he learns.

That wraps it up tonight. I'll be back soon. Lots of luv, Nerm

A WONDERFUL DAY!

This was an absolutely wonderful day! The weather was perfect and I felt great! Even worked outside a little. Thought I'd fill you all in on what I accomplished last week during the down time so I would not feel so worthless.

The black yo-yo's came to me from a grandmother or greataunt. I honestly don't remember. They are very old, but aren't very appealing. I dug out some I had started years ago and decided to get back to it. Easy and fast while watching HGTV all day, huh? I'm hoping to get enough to make a tablecover. I'll keep you posted. Below you can see the variety of the reading material which kept me occupied, plus a "few"more mags. (did I mention, I have a "slight" magazine problem?)

Kermit's back to show you that his rug (see 4/10 post) also got finished. I took it outside today to really be "green", but the sun was so bright that I had to shot him in the shade. That's why he's kinda dark and blue looking. Anyway it's now done & I'm feeling proud & will put it in the bathroom by the shower. Thanks, Kermie.

A while back, quite a while actually, we were tagged by Victoria of Sweet Victoria Antiques to share six (6) words which reveal our philosophy of life. Let me tell you that really gets the thought process going. Finally all my stumbles, forays into creativity, and rational thought boiled down to this one verse I constantly repeat: "All things work together for good" (Romans 8:28). Of course, there's more to the verse, but this says it all in a nutshell. This has been true for so many situations, as far back as college days. I see it revealed in my day-to-day life and is a comfort when I don't understand why some things happen. (like last week's drug reaction). To me the basic truth in this verse is just to trust God to take care of your life. Everything will turn out the way He wants it to and for the best.

So now I am passing this onto five more blogs. Please write a Six Word Memoir that represents your life's motto.... The rules are:1. Write your own six word Memoir. 2. Post it on your blog. 3. Link to the person who tagged you .4. Tag 5 more blogs with links (leave a comment on their blog with an invitation to play).
I'm tagging these people:
I can't wait to see what you say. See ya soon. Luv, Nerm

GREENER THAN KERMIT!

Let me show you all a fun project I'm doing. I know, I know: another project! Why doesn't she finish what she starts? Anyway, I have saved my hubby's old, ratty tee shirts for a couple of years. After I accumulated about 7-8 of them, I cut the sleeves out and the band around the neck. Then I started at the bottom and started cutting one (1") inch strips round and round like peeling an apple. I came up with a big ball of tee shirt yarn. Using a HUGE crochet hook, I chained a length of about 2-1/2 feet long & then started triple crochet rows. I am still crocheting, but will be finished soon. Then I'll put a knotted fringe on each end.

This will make a great bathmat. Obviously, tee shirt fabric is soft, easily washed & even bleached. Great recycling! Wouldn't it be clever to have rows of colored tee shirt fabric?
The possibilities are endless. I may have to go to Goodwill and scoop up some used tees.
Here's what it looks like today -I had a hard time keeping Lily the cat off it. But, hey, I could just wash it to remove the cat hair, but Lily's is white, so what does it matter, right? ha ha
Note to all readers: Tomorrow is Kitty's birthday! She can tell you how old she is, but we'll have a big family get together Sunday to celebrate. I'm making her a couple of fun things. Hope I get them finished in time (there she goes with more projects, will she never stop?) So we'll have some photos of that fun time to share. Til then, Luv, Nerm

A Quiet Day

Not much going on today which is good because I'm kinda tired. Kitty and I had lunch today at one of our favorite eateries http://www.daviskidd.com/ They have a great little restaurant called "Bronte's" which is quiet and a good place to go for undisturbed conversation. Their homemade soups and quiches are outstanding-wish they'd publish a cookbook! I can't get Big Tom (hubby) to go there b/c he thinks real men don't eat quiche! He doesn't know what he's missing.

I'm working on another baby quilt for the Wee Care program at church. I mentioned this on our old blog. Once a month women get together on Saturday and knit, crochet, quilt, etc baby blankets, bibs, and so forth for the local city hospital's indigent new mothers. Then our blankets are added to a tote bag
aka diaper bag, and added to diapers, shampoo, pacifiers...you get the idea
It's been going on for a couple of years now and is a great way to feel you are making a difference. Here are a few of my squares: (I need some more green). Hope you have had a nice day-hope the sun is shining where you are, because it sure isn't here! ha
